My sports trivia calendar includes random birthdays.

On this date in 1979, Erik Bedard was born.

Erikkk shares the date with: Shaq ('72); Sleepy ('80); Willie Stargell ('40) ...

and the most successful flop in history ... Dick Fosbury (1947)
The purpose of government is to set the minimum standard of behavior for a society, backed up with the power and authority to police and punish those who fail to meet those minimum standards. The purpose of Religion is to encourage people to exceed those standards voluntarily.

I actually had to google Fosbury to figure out what you meant, but even still... Posted Image for that.
These guys need some love and I'm gonna give it to 'em!

Nick Franklin - When first taken in the first round after Ackley, he was heralded as a blunder by the Front Office and a irreprehensible mistake. The following season, all he did was hit the most HR by any teenager in the history of the MWL. To date, he's the likeliest candidate for SS of the future (who cares if everyone else wants to him to 2B?!)!

Brad Miller - A(nother) SS that can hit?! Whoa!

Roenis Elias - Gotta like the interesting MiL pitchers. Can't get too many of them... or SSs that can hit.

"Why have Franklin and Miller as AAPs?", you may ask. Simple. You can never have too many shortstops! And who knows? Maybe one or the other gets traded away for something else just as (or more) sexy.

Back in the day the "proper" way to high jump was to go over facing the bar. Fosbury introduced the "Fosbury flop" to the sporting world. Now all high jumpers use it.
