Gameday

Sunday's Mariner lineup:
Ackley 4
Bay 7
Morales 3
Morse 9
Saunders 8
Montero 2
Liddi 5
Zunino DH
Ryan 6
Saunders LHP

The M's can win with this lineup. They can lose with this lineup. Let's just see another good showing. What are the odds that they don't hit at least 2 homers? I would really like to see a breakout game from Ackley. Yes, they started him slow. It's really like right on time if not for the WBC. I would like to see a hard drive being one of the Mariner video highlights in Divish's post game recaps.

Go M's!

There's some scary power potential in today's lineup.
Adopt-a-Players:
Eric Thames - What? Are we waiting for him to become LESS patient at the plate?
2013 AAA: .298/.390/.496/.887 5 HR 20 RBI

Forrest Snow - Things look rather Stark for the bastard of the north. Winter is coming.
2013 AA: 1-4, 3.86 ERA, 23 K, 5 BB, 1.095 WHIP
2012 AAA/AA: 5-9, 6.35 ERA, 99K, 67 BB, 1.674 WHIP

Gone But Not Forgotten (former adopt-a-players):
Matt Mangini - Signed a minor league contract with the Reds in the off season, but appears to have been handed his walking papers.
Mike Morse - HEY! Look who's back!!!!!
Jamal Strong - Let go after 2005. Played in the Yankees, Cubs and Braves systems. Now a regional scout for the Cards.

That's a thing... not the thing, but a thing. Have the M's rolled out a lineup yet that hasn't had scary power potential? Well, yesterday's lineup wouldn't have been confused for the Bronx Bombers by any means. Yet, 2 more homers and 9 more runs.

I'm discussing with some guy over on MLBTraderumors about catching depth. He thinks the M's should keep Montero and trade Zunino since Montero was a top 5 prospect in baseball as a Yankee. My point is I don't care who stays or who goes more than the fact I think it's pretty darn awsome that the M's likely have the best group of 3 catchers age 22 to 24 in all of baseball. When you have that kind of talent, something good is going to work itself out.

@shannondrayer: Gaby Guerero gets a single to center off Felix. No fielders in sim game but Shoppach fights for his pitcher "Nice play Guti!"

LOVE that :)
Been hearing multiple reports of the positive influence of Kelly - on and off the field.

Shoppach's value I think should be worthy of an extension at a good price just because of the value he gives to our young developing catchers. No reason to have 2 young catchers in a team. The best catcher is on the big club with a vet backup and # 2 and #3 are in Tacoma and Jackson or get traded.

Grimm goes down and in with a 4 seamer and Montero blasts his first homer of the spring. 6-0 M's. Top 3, 1 out.

Noesi comes in, bottom 3. Can he hold a 6 run lead in his one or two innings of work?

If this were the Grapefruit League, I'd be starting to wonder if the entire M's team had been visiting ARod's South Florida Clinic. :g:

Well, only 2 runs in 2 innings. He did walk the bases loaded in his 2nd inning, but he only gave up the run on the Beltre triple. I sure am glad the M's aren't counting on Noesi to be in the rotation like last year.

From PI:

Quote

Following Saunders today will be Hector Noesi, Josh Kinney, Carson Smith, Jonathan Arias, Danny Farquhar and Bobby LaFromboise.

Whew, we should be done with Noesi.

I'm glad the Rainiers aren't counting on Noesi in their rotation.

What I wish is that the Royals would lose a game. So far they've gone undefeated fot the 2013 Cactus League Season. Not to worry, we have three games with them before the month is over. As long as we take two of three form them we win the league championship. At least that's the way it's going now.

What I think is awesome is that the over/under for the Mariners scoring runs seems to be 8. OK, I haven't actually done the math, but it must be close. Yes, yes it's the Cactus League with generally warm, sunny, cozy parks to play in, but the Mariners are scoring more runs than anyone except the Royals. That's better than being at the bottom of all offensive categories in a league of 15 teams. Sweet!!!
My newest 2013 AAP's:
Carson Smith, Generals bullpen pitcher
Carlos Peguero, Rainiers outfielder
Rich Poythress, Rainiers first baseman

Kinney loads the bases with 0 outs and??? Get's out of it! Pop to Ackley and Ryan-Miller-Jacobs DP.

For all the wishing for some offense by Ryan... he's got some glove.
