Ok, was the team that lost two out of three to the Blue Jays the same team that swept the Tigers?
.
.
.
Well? Was it?

Here's a rock solid guarantee. By the end of this year everyone who reads the stuff here at Mariner Central will have a firm grasp on these words and phrases:
any way the wind blows, arbitrary, blowing hot and cold, capricious, careless, changeful, contrary, crotchety, effervescent, erratic, every which way, fanciful, fickle, fitful, flaky, flighty, freakish, gaga, helter-skelter, humorsome, impulsive, inconstant, lubricious, mercurial, moody, mutable, notional, odd, picky, punchy, queer, quirky, temperamental, ticklish, unreasonable, unstable, up and down, vagarious, variable, volatile, wayward, whimsical, yo-yo, etc.

What all of that has in common is that they are synonyms of the word "unpredictable". The ones that I am particularly fond of are: crotchety, erratic, fickle, lubricious, quirky, unstable, vagarious, and volatile. Look for these words in the gameday threads of the future.

Alrighty then, it's time to go side by side and see how the two teams stack up against each other.

Offense

SEATTLE TAMPA BAY
AVG
22nd (.239) 12th (.255)

OBP
25th (.290) 6th (.339)

SLG
21 (.376) 6TH (.436)

OPS
22nd (.666) 5th (.775)

RUNS
14th (92) 8th (103)

WALKS
25th (57) 4TH (84)

STRIKEOUTS
18th (163) 22ND (169)

SB
21st (12) 13th (14)

CS
24th (7) 16th (6)

Groundouts / Flyouts
220/238 197/194

Seattle
(AVG (22) + OBP (25) + SLG (21) + OPS (22)) / 4 = 22.5

Tampa Bay
(AVG (12) + OBP (6) + SLG (6) + OPS (5)) / 4 = 7.25

Offensively, Tampa Bay looks to primed to kick the living shit out of the Mariners based upon their production so far this year. But, tell that to Detroit and see what they have to say.

=============================

Pitching

SEATTLE TAMPA BAY

OBP
11th (.308) 22nd (.329)

SLG
18th (.411) 13th (.383)

OPS
18th (.719) 15th (.713)

WHIP
9th (1.23) 21st (1.38)

Groundouts / Flyouts
205/228 (0.90) 208/190 (1.09)

Seattle
(AVG (16) + OBP (11) + SLG (18) + OPS (18)) / 4 = 15.75

Tampa Bay
(AVG (18) + OBP (22) + SLG (13) + OPS (15)) / 4 = 17.00

On the pitching side of the ledger it looks like Seattle has a slight edge over Tampa, but not so much that I would say that they hold an advantage.

Personally speaking, I'd love to to see the M's take the series (natcherly), but I don't think that that is reasonable. I'd be happy to see the M's get a split on the series, but I'm thinking that that too is not reasonable. At the very least, I want the M's to win at least one damn game in the series so that they can go back home having completed a .500 road trip.

Win predictions in this series is practically impossible to do. Our best shot at a win is tonight when we have Felix on the mound, but there is no guarantee that the offense will show up. There is one prediction though that I can guarantee to happen. Sometime over the course of the next four games I will be heard to utter the word ****!!! Several times over and over and over and over and over and over and...

Let's do dis!

Anyone out there know if there is a site that gives W/L record vs righty and lefty SP?. I'm going out on a limb and saying the M's take 3. We beat the righties and lose to the lefty. Tonights game vs Hellickson will be the closest of the set. Felix shuts down the Rays but the M's score a few runs on solo homers.

I'm so sick and tired of being sick and tired.

1-3. We couldn't use the momentum from sweeping the tigers help us. No way we win this series. I hope for a split but 1-3 is more than likely. They've already down better on the road trip then I gave them credit for. So we'll see how this goes. Tampa Bay's roatation is good and deep so I won't be surprised to see two or three shut outs this series. If we score more than 5 runs this series it'll be great. I expect to see a couple of 1-0 2-0 3-1 type of games this series and I don't see us being able to come out on top. However, a 1-3 record means that we're 5-5 on the road toad while not bad It'd be nice to come out ahead on this road trip.

The big question now is, "Can Nolivo get a hit in each of the next 48 games?"

Coming off a big series win over Texas and playing great, the Rays draw 9,458 for first game of homestand. Not good.

Our fans won't even go see Seattle, why would the Rays fans want to see Seattle play?
