A much better start for this game, Ichiro leads off with a single, Figgins follows with a bunt single, and Guti breaks his 0 for 15 slump with an RBI single.

LOL! They had Branyan picked off at first but Figgins ran towards home triggering a bad throw home. 2-0

Smoak with the Sac Fly brings in Branyan. 3-0

Bard follows with a double.

Figgins with his first HR as a Mariner, puts the score 5-1.

It seems French was scheduled to start yesterday for the Rainiers but was pulled just before the game started. That means the Mariners had decided to promote French by 7 pm last night. I figured it out when I was checking the Rainier rotation, but then I found it at the
official site.

French will be in the bullpen for a couple of days, then will probably be put into the rotation to take Ryan's spot. Petit was pulled out of the Rainiers bullpen to start the game. He pitched well for 5 innings and the bullpen did even better for the last 4 innings and the Rainiers won.

Pay no attention to all the frustrating losses. It's all part of the master plan. Even number years are bad luck for the Mariners. It's all about 2011, and preparing for a World Series run next year.

5 runs is not enough to beat the White Sox, but it was nice to see them score 5 runs in the first two innings. Zduriencik should have deployed his portable rain machine to Chicago today.

Saunders with the big 0-4 tonight. He had a couple of decent AB's with runners in scoring position. He really needs to move up in the order.

With this loss, we are on pace of finishing the season 62-100, nice round number.

If were going to lose a hundred... bring the kids up. What the heck. At least they'll be excited to suit up every day. Heck, while I'm getting all nutty... maybe Ichiro retires honorably after the season if he doesn't reach 200 hits freeing up $18 million a year. Go ahead Ichiro... slump away. He can then take up fashion design full time.

The way the team has been playing lately we will lose 110 games, not 100. I've predicted that August will be a better month, for no better reason than the Mariners have done better in even number months this year. Still, when better is a 90+ loss season, it really doesn't matter.
