Will we have a triple crown winner this year ? As you know, we have not had a triple crown winner since
Carl Yaztrzemski (44, 121, .326) in 1967. Ther has been nine in the AL and five in the NL in history. Ted Williams did it twice in the AL and Rogers Hornsby did it twice in the NL.
Triple Crown - Baseball Almanac
There is a chance to have a triple crown winner in both leagues. In the AL, Miguel Cabrera, of the Tigers leads in RBI's with 98 and A-Rod is nipping at his heals with 97. Cabrera trails Jose Batista in home runs 37 to 30. Cabrera trails Josh Hamilton in average (.330 to .356). Hamilton had a terrible series against the Rays, and he and the Rangers were swept. Hamilton is 11 back in HR's and not in the to five in RBI's.
In the NL, Fat Albert Pujols leads by six in RBI's and is tied in HR"s with 31. Fat Albert trails Joey Votto in average .314 to .324. Votto trails in HR's by three and eight in the RBI race.
All the players involved are in the playoff chase, except for Cabrera with the Tigers, who are way back.
