if you have never watched fast pitch softball it really is the better game then baseball. Pitchers can pitch well into their 60's. They can continue at a high level. They can go back to back games due to the natural arm movement, unlike hardball, and they can have a injury free career. They can throw pitches that cannot be thrown over hand. The Huskies have a great pitcher in Lawrie. Perhaps the best in the nation.

Resiliency key to Lawrie’s success

“It was better than I expected her to be,” freshman catcher Shawna Wright said. “I know I wouldn’t have been able to bounce back from a game like (Thursday’s loss). Just for her to compete, and just be a stud, is really great.”

Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso said last week that Lawrie may well be the best pitcher to ever play the game. And there is a growing sentiment that the senior right-hander might be the best athlete in UW history — regardless of sport.

Tim Lincecum has won the past two Cy Young trophies, but he was never named an NCAA player of the year — Lawrie is in line to win two.

Steve Entman won an Outland Trophy, finished fourth in the Heisman voting and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, but he never won an outright national title — Lawrie is making a run at her second.

Hugh McElhenny, Hope Solo, Brandon Roy and Nick Taylor have had legendary athletic careers at UW. But none of them is as accomplished as Lawrie, either.

Huskies' Lawrie again is national player of year

Star UW pitcher has been recognized as softball's best for two years running

Bulldogs bounce the Huskies into loser’s bracket at CWS

OKLAHOMA CITY — A two-out, three-run homer from Georgia’s Megan Wiggins in the sixth inning broke a 3-3 tie and led the Bulldogs to a 6-3 win over Washington in the Huskies’ first game at the 2010 NCAA Women’s College World Series on Thursday night.

The No. 1-ranked Huskies (50-8) next play an elimination game against Arizona at 11:30 a.m. Saturday (PDT). The game airs on ESPN2. Should Washington survive that game, it would need three more victories to earn a spot in the championship series.
