Nice little list they have. In the last fifty years, sluggers that you just have to watch when they are up to bat. No going to the icebox for a cold one. No.

An interesting note on Kingman. When he signed a contract with the Cubs, management included a bonus in his contract, if he broke the team RBI record ! LOL

comments on the list ? Perhaps you'd put them in a different order.

- I can't bring myself to watch a Yankee with that kind of anticipation, so that knocks off almost half the list.
- I got to the point where I couldn't seriously watch the steroid babies: Bonds and McGuire. (Though I admit to watching McGuire is this manner during the now infamous HR chase)
- I never found Kingman or Howard all that interesting.
- Mays was a beaten down shell of a man by the time I saw him play.
- I barely remember Dick Allen.

Of the list provided, I'd have to go with either Mays (in his prime) or Pujols.

But where's Hank Aaron?
Adopt-a-Players:
Eric Thames - What? Are we waiting for him to become LESS patient at the plate?
2013 AAA: .298/.390/.496/.887 5 HR 20 RBI

Forrest Snow - Things look rather Stark for the bastard of the north. Winter is coming.
2013 AA: 1-4, 3.86 ERA, 23 K, 5 BB, 1.095 WHIP
2012 AAA/AA: 5-9, 6.35 ERA, 99K, 67 BB, 1.674 WHIP

Gone But Not Forgotten (former adopt-a-players):
Matt Mangini - Signed a minor league contract with the Reds in the off season, but appears to have been handed his walking papers.
Mike Morse - HEY! Look who's back!!!!!
Jamal Strong - Let go after 2005. Played in the Yankees, Cubs and Braves systems. Now a regional scout for the Cards.

I was going to ask "Griffey not among the contestants?!? On a Mariner site?"

Then, I noticed that this was the MLBN list -- really concentrating more on single-shot length than overall slugging. Of course, for overall length, I'd think Dunn would be more appropriate than Pujols. Pujols is perhaps the greatest hitter of our generation - but I don't think he really belongs in the "masher" category any more than say ... Aaron.

If it's all about length, then put the Toy Cannon on the list. He'd belong there just as much as Allen.

But if the question is "Is there a player who, in his prime, would cause you to drop everything just to watch him take an at bat?" - Gotta say that my preferences will lean towards the guys who were not only sluggers, but great all around hitters.
Pujols, Howard, Mantle, Mays, Griffey, Aaron: these guys were great all around hitters.
Reggie, Strawberry, McGuire, Allen: these guys were all one dimensional sluggers for the most part.
Bonds? Lord knows what he would have been without the chemical assistance.

Do you think Jimmy Wynn is a HOF'er ? I don't see why not.His average not all that but the stadiums he played in and the era he played in has to figure into his power numbers. Also his SB's and OBP in an era when this was not valued. Said to have hit the longest home run at Crosley Field, although I've never found how far. Ruth played there at the very end of his career and only for a few games or otherwise he'd probably have the longest there. Suprising Ruth never played there barnstorming or pre season exhibitition games or mid season exhibition games. Still, Wynn hit one over the scoreboard in Crosley Field. Definitely a Ruthian Blast.

I voted for Willie Mays. I will admit though, before the scandal happened, there was no one like Barry Bonds that got everyone's attention. The results show that most of the respondents were Yankee fans. So that alone makes it a pretty stupid poll.
My newest 2013 AAP's:
Carson Smith, Generals bullpen pitcher
Carlos Peguero, Rainiers outfielder
Rich Poythress, Rainiers first baseman
