If by finals you mean the actual World Cup and not the qualifiers then you're right.

Today were the first 2 games of the "finals" out of a total of 64.

I understand why they don't have sudden death overtimes in fútbol. As long as it can be between goals there's nothing sudden about it. Someone might actually die before a goal is scored. If that happened, which team would be the winner?

Most soccer teams score more frequently than the M's.

Play is at least limited to two hours max. That's play as in run your ass off chasing a ball, not play as in stand around scratching your own.

If you like the USA in today's match you can get 6-1 odds in Nevada. As always numbers listed here are for entertainment purposes only.

Come on, this exciting tournament only takes 1 month to finish, not the six months it takes the marathonic baseball season to finish. It's only starting and you want the championship game to take place after 1 day?

Sorry, Hui -- but, you've gotta be referring to SOUTH America.

In America - we believe in adding the maximum number of meaningless and frustrating rounds of playoffs possible - so long as we can get them shown on prime time TV. In the good 'ole USA, it ain't sports unless you're making a BILLION in profits off your playoff revenues.

Given a choice between what is good for selecting a champion - and what is good for increasing profits for the already filthy rich -- the filthy rich win every time without exception. THAT is what American sports are (sadly) about.
The purpose of government is to set the minimum standard of behavior for a society, backed up with the power and authority to police and punish those who fail to meet those minimum standards. The purpose of Religion is to encourage people to exceed those standards voluntarily.

May I suggest to wait for him to face a real professionally organized defensive system ? If you remember this year matches Barcelona vs Inter you may realize what I mean.

Eh, Manu is not a professionally organized defensive system? You didn't think he was fun to watch in that championship match?

Don't get me wrong, it's always a pleasure to watch players like Messi, especially if opponents leave him running free wherever he wishes, and very often fellows like him bring you some championships. But sometimes it does not work and when things go the other way usually it's due to smarter - even if not more skilled - opponents. I think Maradona still remembers very well, along with his 1986 triumph, also his 1982 and 1990 troubles vs some hard boiled defenses.

Knowing all that, I'd still like my chances with Messi better than against him.

Me too... My thought was just to remember that World Cup is often full of wonderful stories (especially during early rounds) which came suddenly to an unexpected end. Sometimes it opens your eyes about the fact a winning soccer team can be really the result of a collective effort.

Right, Messi can't do it alone for the whole Cup, which might be Argentina's undoing.
