Hey kiddies,
I've been cogitating on this for a while now and I think that this is a good time to trot it out. This will be the first of 25 threads in which we all get to chime in and make predictions as how we think that the player of the thread will perform in 2010. You can use gut feeling, SABR, rumor and propaganda, or a mutant combination of whatever you wish.
What won't happen is any discourse among you all about how wrong someone is in their prediction. This isn't a contest, it's just for fun.
As the sub header says, this first thread is dedicated to Ichiro. I'll kick it off.
Ichiro, to me, seems to be the model of consistancy. His production has had only minor upward or downward spikes. His defense is predicated on control and not exceeding his abilities (in order to maintain health). So, for 2010 I see Ichiro having this kind of year:
- .325/.375/.420
- 30 SB
- 12 HR
- Gold Glove
- Ichiro may suffer a minor injury in a tickle incident.

The one thing I would like to see Ichiro do is score over 100 runs. Last year was his first for not scoring 100 runs in his career. We won't have to worry about this record: QUOTE Consecutive seasons with 100 or more runs scored
13 (3 tied) Lou Gehrig, New York Yankees - 1926 through 1938 Hank Aaron, Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves - 1955 through 1967 Alex Rodriguez, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, and New York Yankees - 1996 through 2008. Wikipedia

Lonnie is pretty close to my ballpark guesstimate:
.330/.370/.420 -- 37-SB; 9-HR -- 108 runs
GG and All-Star selection are practically automatic.

Lonnie, for Ichiro only, shouldn't number of hits be included?

Lonnie Ichiro has a rough season. He is hurt late in spring training and deals with a hamstring all season. Eric Byrnes makes the team and plays right field for two months and becomes the comeback player of the year in the American League. Byrnes is then moved to left field when Bradley is hurt and plays well. Ichiro finishes the season .270/.340/.402, 4 homeruns and 147 hits.

Ichiro came up with a little power last year. I'll shave off a few of the doubles and stack on a few more triples. Just a tad more slugging. 330/370/470

I've got Ichiro doing the same as last year -- .340-.350 with 30 doubles and 10 homers, a 127 OPS+, and a franchise-leadoff hitter season, these being the reasons why. I think Dr. Naka predicts even more, based in part on the fact that Ichiro's 2009 season was clipped by an early-season ulcer...

Mostly the same as 2009, except he'll score 120 runs with Figgins and Parker Brothers hitting behind him.

*edited for formatting* Oooh - I like this too, boss! Let's see. Ichiro, huh? I predict: CODE BA: .325-.340 OBP: .365-.385 SLG: .410-.435 OPS: .780-.820
H: 220-245 2B: 22-27 3B: 4-6 HR: 8-11
SB: 29-34 CS: 6-8 --- So, let's see. As not to be saddled with a 'cop-out' label for putting up my best guesses, I'll pick specific numbers as well. .332/.374/.422/.796 232 hits, 11 HR, 33 SB against 6 CS All-Star starter, Gold Glove, but probably not a Silver Slugger

I am on record as saying that mathematically, all you can do with Ichiro, until he shows some kind of noticeable trend, is project persistence. .335/.385/.435 with 30 steals, 8-10 HR, 23-26 2B, 5-8 3B

as counter intuitive as it is (coming off a very good year, and being a year older), I am going to go super optimist on this and predict a career year for Ichiro. Bolsterd by Griffey Tickles, better hitters behind him, and the first legitimate push for a World Series since his first year in the MLB Ichiro goes for: 271 hits (yup breaks his own record) plays in 160 games (2 regular days off) scores 123 runs AVG - .392 (making a serious run a .400, but coming up just short) OBP - .431 (about the same number of walks as usual around 45 - 50) SLG - .475 (mostly driven by the high avg, will have about 10 HR's) 35 steals (although Ichiro with Figgens and Bradley behind him will not feel as inclined to steal since both those guys have a good chance of getting Ichiro to second by themselves he wont feel like he has to do it.) With the M's getting into the playoffs and contending for a World Series, and Ichiro's push for .400 and breaking his own hits record, he also wins the MVP award along withthe automatic GG, All-Star and Silver Slugger awards
