The Pirates could deal Ryan Doumit, and one analyst states that he would be a good fit for the Mariners (not a rumor, just someones opinion). Doumit is an intriguing option if the Mariners were to look his way, hid experience behind the plate, in the outfield, and a bit at firstbase makes me think "hmmm".

Doumit is under contract for the next 2 years ($3.55M in 2010, $5.1M in 2011), with a two year club option for 2012 and 2013. Doumit turns 29 on April 3rd, 2010.

Went to high school with him in high school. I would be totally stoked to have him come back to the M's.

Eeehh...

Looks like an OK sup-utility man. Wouldn't want him starting anywhere.

Why is that? Other than his down year in 2009 he has been pretty solid.

A superutility player that gets poor reviews behind the plate (if I remember correctly), plays a terrible outfield and and iffy 1B... eh, no.. not in that role.

For those who missed it, the Seattle Times had an interesting article a little while back about the 1999 draft class from Washington that Doumit was part of.

Lonnie...check his nearly 3:1 K/BB ratio and his lack of plate discipline. And the fact that he's playing in the minor leagues, not the only existing major league.

The fact that Doumit provides insurance at catcher would be verrrrry intriguing to Wakamatsu, considering that you have two shaky catchers and need to raise your comfort level anyway.

Negatives attached, but the ability to catch is a plus with a capital P...

It is really interesting how things turned out. Doumit was on no one's radar going into his senior season, but scouts were at every game because of Garbe and Cooper - they saw him and loved what he brought behind the plate, but were worried about whether he would ever have a bat for the big leagues. Everyone was pretty shocked when he got drafted where he did, we had heard he was likely to get drafted but definitely not that early. If anything and most thought that he would go to college and re-enter the draft after he honed some of his skills.

Here we are 10 years later and he is the only one to have really emerged as a quality Major League player out of the bunch. The future really not very easy to predict.

OK...if Lonnie is having his comments deleted, then USSM has become a pardoy of the parody of itself that it already was.

Wow, I'm now at a loss for words (nearly)! Here's nearly word for word what I posted there:

"I brought up the subject of Ryan Doumit on another board and the idea was pretty well poo-pooed."

Was my comment deleted because I inadvertantly said "another board"? You've got to be kidding me!So much for pre-Christmas good thoughts and feelings.

Was it because by saying "another board" you were inferring USSM was a board? Are they that fragile?
Or perhaps by saying "others poo-pooed" you indirectly called Dave's idea shit. And of course contrary thought is not particularly welcome there.

I used to read USSM fairly frequently. I'm down to about a visit a week on it. Dave is certainly consistent in his point of view and brings up interesting ideas and analysis. But it just feels so unrelentingly negative at times. And I generally don't mind negativism when warranted. I'm also tired of the myriad of articles trumpeting some guy who plays good defense, can take a walk and hit an occasional homerun, but otherwise can't hit for crap.

I don't even bother with the comment section.

USSM is not a board. USSM is not a blog. USSM is the pinnacle of journalistic excellence. Any attempts to insinuate otherwise will be dealt with harshly.

And don't you forget it!

I did three things wrong.
1 - I inadvertantly refered to their site as a "board"
2 - I showed that the idea of getting Doumit was not universally popular.
3 - I mentioned Doumit on the 13th and beat the son-of-a-bitch to the draw by a full 5 days.

Funny little fact. I went back there just now to see if I was also banned. I was able to log on with no problems. When I tried to logout it wouldn't let me! Please God, get me out of there!!!!!!!

USSM is such a f***ing joke now. Dave Cameron's ego is at least 50 times bigger than you guys think my ego is...and that's saying something because you guys walk around thinking I have a Napoleon complex.
