Cleanliness Is Next To Suckiness First off, let's be clear on one point. The Mariners aren't the ones being clean here. They aren't the ones who are doing the sweeping. And they certainly aren't being good little boys and picking up their toys. At one point during last night's game, it was pointed out that they'd gone 0-17 with RISP for the series. That was the moment I shut off the game. Home On The Range(rs) Not a good time to be on a down stretch. The M's have 5 losses in a row, mostly because the offense can't seem to pull their collective heads out of their asses. But now, with the team's biggest bat on the bench, half the bullpen either injured or unavailable, and a few players seemingly banished to the bench, the team's hopes seem dire. Bad timing. We're heading into a series against a team that's had our number all season. The M's are 4-9 against Texas this season, winning only one game in Arlington so far. Yeah. There's a decent chance we could be below .500 by Monday. Any Day Now We all know that Texas' success is a fluke. They'll fade in the summer heat just like they always do. Their pitching will fall apart and the next thing you know, they'll be fighting to stay out of the AL West cellar. That summer swoon is a little late this year, but it has to be coming. It's gotta start any day now. Go M's! Mess With Texas!

My answer: I refuse to vote because it really doesn't matter. What matters is that many if not most on this list will be competing in spring training for roster spots, Saunders and Johnson could be competing for starting jobs, and Branyan, if resigned, will be handed a starting job. The rest have proven that they are bench players, so it's not a big deal which of them play in September. We pretty much know what we've got with them anyway.

I want to see Saunders as much as possible between now and the end of the year. He's accruing service time, so he should play over Bill freakin Hall (who I also like and want to see, but not as much as the Condor).

Also, Luke French is in the bullpen now (readiness index)

French has been theoretically in and out of the bullpen so much over the past few days that I just gave up on it. Once I see Morrow actually take the mound, then I'll believe French has moved to the pen. Until then, I just assume that I'm still being jerked around.

The correct answer(s) to today's poll are Johnson and Hannahan. Both are in today's lineup. Providing that the game gets played, that is.

It's been delayed over an hour now. Is there still no word on when or if it will resume?

I tried to listen to it on the radio. They were talking about football on 710 AM, so I went to 770 AM and they were talking about politics or something weird like that. At least FSN lets you know there's a rain delay. I could watch the Buhner interview for about the fifth time.

I checked the weather radar in Arlington and it ain't lookin' good. There is one system after another rolling through there, and some of them are pretty scary.

They could play a doubleheader Saturday or Sunday. The Mariners are off Monday, but the Rangers have a home night game scheduled. If they had to, the Rangers could play the Mariners Monday afternoon and the A's Monday night. It's been a few years since that happened, but it's possible. The absolute last resort would be to play a doubleheader at Safeco the last weekend of the season.

This is not a must play today game. Two hours is plenty to wait.

They certainly are making every effort to play the game. It's now about 9:30 pm in Arlington. FSN isn't pretending it's a delay any more, but MLB still calls it delayed.

The finally officially postponed it. Driving around under the clear lue skise and warm weather of Tacoma, the last thing I imagined is that this the game would be rained out.

I can see the weather being trouble the next two days, which could set up a scenario where the M's and Ranger have 2-3 games tacked onto the end of the season, where the M's may stand in the way of a Rangers playoff berth with the rest of baseball done. Could make for an exciting finish. I love making the playoffs, but after that I do enjoy watching my team play the spoiler.

Even if they lose two games here, they can still do two doubleheaders at Safeco. I don't believe they allow three double headers in a row, so they need to play one in Texas. They have until Monday to get it done though.

Oh yeah.... RE: Readiness Index

Miguel Batista left the team to deal with a family situation of some kind.

Also, French is missing. Silva pitched two innings against Sacramento tonight, and gave up two runs, but he will join the bullpen soon. They may need to add some other pitchers though.

See my earlier reply about French. He's in "I'll believe it when I see it" mode at the moment.

Right now I'd just settle for seeing Ichiro getting an AB. How long before they actually play a game in Arlington?

Unfortunately, a sub-tropical storm has cut off over all of Texas...causing flooding rains. They need the rain...the Mariners don't.

it's an offical game !

hopefully they'll get this game in and the double header Sunday as well. It could very well be a meaningful game for the Rangers. Nice to see mother nature throw a wrench into the works to makes things tough on the Rangers...LOL !

did I just hear dave the hall of famer call ichiro Nostradamus ?
